Robin

$40.00

New Zealand has three species of robin, the North Island; South Island; and black robin – found on the Chatham Islands. The black robin made a famous comeback from the brink of extinction – with Old Blue being the only surviving female able to lay fertile eggs. Robins regularly forage insects on the forest floor, and appear friendly, as they come close to feed on the insects disturbed by your footprints.

For your Bang’n robin you have the choice of traditional, koru, or insect inlay.

Your Bang’n robin is designed and made in New Zealand. Constructed from weathering steel, your robin will weather naturally, and settle into your landscape over time – forming a beautiful rusty patina.

Dimensions:

  • Head to Tail – 210mm
  • Head to Branch – 165mm
  • Branch – 255mm

Description

New Zealand has been a geographically isolated island nation for many millions of years. This isolation, and a lack of native land mammals, lead to the evolution of the unique array of bird species that call New Zealand home. Many of these species have suffered from the introduction of mammalian predators, such as stoats, rats, possums and cats.

Your purchase of a Bang’n bird helps to ensure that the native species of New Zealand stay in the forefront of our minds, in all regions of New Zealand. As you enjoy your Bang’n bird settling into your landscape, spend some time reflecting on what you might be able to do to ensure that our surviving species can flourish as they once did.
