Pukeko Family

$85.00$155.00

Pukeko are widely distributed throughout New Zealand – benefiting from the clearance of land for agriculture (but often causing hassle to cultivators). Birds nest in raupo swamps and other areas with clumps of rushes. Pukeko feed on the raupo and rushes, as well as other shoots, stems and leaves.

Give your Mum an endless reminder of her beautiful whanau with a Bang’n pukeko family. You have the choice of traditional, or custom family inlay. With the choice of 1, 2, 3 or 4 chicks.

Your Bang’n pukeko family is designed and made in New Zealand. Constructed from weathering steel, your pukeko family will weather naturally, and settle into your landscape over time – forming a beautiful rusty patina.

Description

New Zealand has been a geographically isolated island nation for many millions of years. This isolation, and a lack of native land mammals, lead to the evolution of the unique array of bird species that call New Zealand home. Many of these species have suffered from the introduction of mammalian predators, such as stoats, rats, possums and cats.

Your purchase of a Bang’n bird helps to ensure that the native species of New Zealand stay in the forefront of our minds, in all regions of New Zealand. As you enjoy your Bang’n bird settling into your landscape, spend some time reflecting on what you might be able to do to ensure that our surviving species can flourish as they once did.
