Kingfisher

$40.00

The sacred kingfisher or kōtare is a wary bird, always on the lookout for prey. They are a common sight perched on posts and powerlines throughout the country. They eat a wide-range of prey, and are known for bashing larger items such as lizards, mice and fish to supple them up before swallowing them whole.

For your Bang’n kingfisher you have the choice of traditional, koru, or lizard inlay.

Your Bang’n kingfisher is designed and made in New Zealand. Constructed from weathering steel, your kingfisher will weather naturally, and settle into your landscape over time – forming a beautiful rusty patina.

Dimensions:

  • Beak to Tail – 220mm
  • Head to Branch – 120mm
  • Branch – 310mm

Description

New Zealand has been a geographically isolated island nation for many millions of years. This isolation, and a lack of native land mammals, lead to the evolution of the unique array of bird species that call New Zealand home. Many of these species have suffered from the introduction of mammalian predators, such as stoats, rats, possums and cats.

Your purchase of a Bang’n bird helps to ensure that the native species of New Zealand stay in the forefront of our minds, in all regions of New Zealand. As you enjoy your Bang’n bird settling into your landscape, spend some time reflecting on what you might be able to do to ensure that our surviving species can flourish as they once did.
